Fans may have to wait longer than they may have wanted for X-Men ’97! A new report suggests the series won’t return for season 2 on Disney Plus for quite some time.
X-Men ’97 was a smash hit for Marvel Studios, taking the internet by storm with the mutant team’s grand return to the world of animation. But with Disney Plus only providing a scant ten episodes, fans have been itching for any news they can get about season 2. Sadly, it seems the release date for the project sits far out of where many fans may have hoped.
A report coming from Nexus Point News revealed that X-Men ’97 season 2 won’t be dropping on Disney Plus until sometime in 2026. This delayed return is due in part to changes being made to the existing scripts following Matthew Chauncey taking over as head writer on the series following Beau DeMayo’s split with Marvel Studios back in March of this year.
Everything Fans Know About X-Men ’97 Season 2
This delay also comes as a shock as work is already being done on season 3 of X-Men ’97, leading many to believe that season 2 was just around the corner. While animation does take a long time to do right, especially with the high bar of quality Marvel Studios has for their Disney Plus shows, such a long release date for less than a dozen episodes may cause the hype for the series to die down long before it ever premieres on the service.
While little is known about X-Men ’97 season 2, especially with the rumored change in plans from the head writer, the project appears to be heading toward a confrontation with Apocalypse. Given how poorly the last take on the character was received in X-Men: Apocalypse, Marvel Studios is likely taking their time in making sure the adaptation is well-received before the show’s return on Disney Plus.
