I am tickled pink to welcome Erica Vetsch back to the blog today for a chat about her brand new Regency romance with that swoony cover, The Lost Lieutenant! Erica and I became Seekerville bloggers at the same time, and I’ve so enjoyed getting to know her better since then. Very excited for her about this new series!

Best-selling, award-winning author Erica Vetsch loves Jesus, history, romance, and sports. She’s a transplanted Kansan now living in Minnesota, and she married her total opposite and soul mate! When she’s not writing fiction, she’s planning her next trip to a history museum and cheering on her Kansas Jayhawks and New Zealand All Blacks. You can connect with her at her website, www.ericavetsch.com where you can read about her books and sign up for her newsletter, and you can find her online at https://www.facebook.com/EricaVetschAuthor/ where she spends way too much time!

As a former history teacher and museum junkie, I am enthralled by the past, by the customs, bravery, and ingenuity shown by those who came before us. As a born romantic, I fall in love with fictional characters, living their triumphs and tragedies through the wonder of story. I want to share my love of history and romance and hopefully bring some light and life to the world around me.

THE LOST LIEUTENANT
SERIES:
Serendipity & Secrets #1

GENRE: Inspirational Historical/Regency Romance
PUBLISHER: Kregel
RELEASE DATE: April 21, 2020
PAGES: 304

He’s doing what he can to save the Prince Regent’s life… but can he save his new marriage as well? Evan Eldridge never meant to be a war hero–he just wanted to fight Napoleon for the future of his country. And he certainly didn’t think that saving the life of a peer would mean being made the Earl of Whitelock. But when the life you save is dear to the Prince Regent, things can change in a hurry.

Now Evan has a new title, a manor house in shambles, and a stranger for a bride, all thrust upon him by a grateful ruler. What he doesn’t have are all his memories. Traumatized as a result of his wounds and bravery on the battlefield, Evan knows there’s something he can’t quite remember. It’s important, dangerous–and if he doesn’t recall it in time, will jeopardize not only his marriage but someone’s very life.

Readers who enjoy Julie Klassen, Carolyn Miller, and Kristi Ann Hunter will love diving into this brand-new Regency series filled with suspense, aristocratic struggles, and a firm foundation of faith.

Hi dear Erica! Welcome back to the blog!

Erica: Oranges! I LOVE Oranges! I love oranges so much, and craved them so badly when I was pregnant with my elder child that I thought she might be born with a peel on her head!

Carrie: haha my mom craved oranges all the time with me too … and i’m allergic to them lol!

Erica: TEA! Earl Grey hot, and Mango Black iced!

Carrie: I really wish I would like start liking tea. It seems so lovely and cozy and bookish.

Erica: Diet Coke all the way. Though I don’t drink as much of it as I used to. It’s wicked expensive these days, isn’t it?

Carrie: a) I knew I liked you and b) le sigh – yes. And i heard that all of this pandemic stuff may lead to flat sodas and … that might actually be my tipping point hahaha

Erica: Dare I say neither? I prefer either the open plains of Kansas or the rocky shores of Lake Superior.

Carrie: You Kansas plains people… (looking at my husband too) 😛

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Erica: Time travel. I would love to visit all the eras I write about. I’d love to take in all the sounds, tastes, smells, sights, feels of the Regency, Victorian, Pioneer, and Cowboy eras…and more!

Carrie: ooo yes please … and then come home to my diet coke.

Q: When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head first?

Erica: Fiction! Christian fiction, mystery, romance, general fiction. Then I drift to the history/biography section and peruse all the lovely history books.

Carrie: we would get along well bookstore browsing together – and doesn’t that sound like something we need to make happen!

Q: If I sneaked a peek in your purse right now (which I would never do, I promise!), what would it tell me about you?

Erica: That I’m a minimalist, that I need to take the loose change out of the bottom of my purse, that I am a Kansas Jayhawks Fan, since my key lanyard and my cell phone are all about the Jayhawks.

Carrie: my husband would highly approve of the Jayhawks stuff 🙂

Q: Do you have the whole plot outlined before you start writing, or do you let the characters dictate what comes next?

Erica: I am definitely a plotter. I have the entire story plotted out, a chapter-by-chapter synopsis written, and photographs of my character inspirations all laid out before I begin writing. And then when I start, things change. While most of the story stays the same, some things change, and serendipitous things happen in the spaces I’ve left in the plot and synopsis. Connections are made, complexities arise, and themes emerge that I can layer in and discover along the way. It’s those bits that keep me interested and motivated as I write.

Carrie: “…serendipitous things happen in the spaces I’ve left…” – i love that!

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from The Lost Lieutenant?

Erica: An enjoyable reading experience, first and foremost. A story that makes them feel like they’re falling in love, with the hero, with the setting, with the Regency era. A reminder that God doesn’t make mistakes, that He is trustworthy and good all the time.

Carrie: well said!
