At the feet of change comes acceptance. For Detroit’s own The Doozers, four years of evolution culminate in the upcoming self-release of their debut album, Becoming an Entity, slated for release July 26, 2024.
The slew of singles offered this year have been reflective on their path to become a new entity, as the album’s title suggest. From the thicker fuzz and introduction of “Start me up, my friend,” to the composite rhythm of “5/3,” Sean Donnelly, Kyle Garland, Melanie Kelley, and Parker Grissom meticulously unveil each chapter of their self-discovery with painstakingly crafted productions, especially on their latest indie-wave release.
On “Tidal Song” the band dissolves into liquid, fostering an ebb and flow mentality. Bass lines intertwine, each element flowing at their own pace, reinforcing the idea that everything finds its equilibrium, returning to a shared midpoint with gentle ripples and a wet distortion.
The band masterfully captures the essence of water—its magic, its freedom, and its perpetual motion. Dual vocals harmonize seamlessly, embracing the shared space without competition. Subtle distortions punctuate the production, evoking a serene state of tranquility that satisfies a long-neglected craving and teases what’s yet to unfold on the full-length.
A moment of surrender, ‘Tidal Song’ is focused on the release of binds that keep us separate. With interwoven dual basses, co-written lyrics, and washes of sound over the steadily plodding rhythm, it’s an invitation to sink gently to an ocean floor. -The Doozers
