Ashley is looking for this particular trope, and I get a kick out of this one ’cause one of my favorite movies from years ago (in this trope) had me laughing so hard!!

It was “She’s the Man” with Amanda Bynes. She had such incredible comedic timing and hilarious facial expressions, I giggle through the whole thing. That is one of my favorite feel-good movies, so I can’t wait to see what we come up with, book-wise!

Meredith: You say heroine dressed as a man and I immediately think of Twelfth Night and She’s the Man (since it’s a retelling of Twelfth Night to begin with.) 🤣

Roya: Not a book but i’ve always liked Shakespeare in Love 💕

Ashley asks:

I would love to see a list about heroine disguised as a boy.

You don’t have anything like that now do you?

Thanks in advance.

Ashley 🙂

Do you have a favorite for this list?

Ashley’s own recommendations:

Magan: Babe in Boyland

Megan Hart: I don’t usually rec my own books, but if Ashley likes alternate world fantasy adventure romance, she might like Beneath the Veil. Definitely a heroine disguised as a man!

Robyn: The Kingmaker Chronicles by Amanda Bouchet. Cat the h started off as a boy but the H figured it out. I died laughing through the first book A Promise of Fire.

Niki: A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet was a great fantasy romance!! The mystery, the magic, the humor, supporting characters. The heroine was awesome and tough and the hero was pretty great too!!! 10 plus stars 🙂

Lia: Sea Change by Darlene Marshall. Historical, with pirates!

Gabriella: Sci-fi and YA, but I really liked it. “The Academy” by Emmaline Andrews

Anne: The Secret Girl by CM Stunich (this one is RH though)

Melissa: Anne Victoria can it be read as a stand-alone?

Anne: Melissa Coy No, you can’t. It’s a trilogy. But really worth it! It has a Manga vibe in it! 😁

Tessa: The Secret Girl was great. I didn’t want to stop reading it. Finished it last night and ugh, she’s the queen of CH, I swear. But how it ended. NOPE. I reject that reality. 😛 I will live in the hope that it’s a lie. Yep, I am happy in my NOPE bubble.

Maryse: Luckily they are all out now! Bring on the cliffhangers, we can just jump right in to the next one. YAY US!

bobbie: Painted Faces L.H. Cosway might work for this trope.

Maryse: I think this one was more HE was dressed as a woman, however I LOVED THIS BOOK SO HARD that it’s an excellent option anyway! 😀 That one was AMAZING!!!! In fact, here’s my Book Review.

Nay: Painted Faces was among my 2012 top 3 (I can’t believe it’s been SIX years!) …I LOVED Painted Faces!!

Anne: Just finished Painted Faces and yes I love it so much! Nicholas is so great! And Freda is amazing! I want to be her BFF. This book is so beautiful I just can’t lol

Jacie: The Girl’s Got Secrets by Linda Kage is a contemporary/new adult romance. It’s part of an awesome series!

Andrea: Pathfinder’s Way by T. A. White is a fantasy novel where the heroine spends most of book pretending to be a boy. It doesn’t start that way, but fairly early on the disguise comes into play. Fantastic story.

Ashley: Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I love historical romance if anyone has suggestions from that era. 😊

Mony: Storm and Silence series by Robert Thier – a favourite of mine

Jan: There are a few historicals like this that I’ve read, such as:
