Eight-time Grammy nominee and SAG winner Janelle Monae (“Moonlight,” “Harriet”) is set to star as Jazz Age icon, civil rights activist and freedom fighter Josephine Baker in the A24 TV series “De La Resistance”.
The series will focus on Baker’s role as not only one of the world’s most glamorous entertainers (and the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture), but as a spy for the Allies who helped the French resistance during WW2 and was awarded multiple honors by Charles de Gaulle.
Monae will also produce the film which hails from creator and showrunner Jennifer Yale (“Outlander,” “Underground”) and joins A24’s impressive TV slate so far that includes “Euphoria” and “Ramy”.
