The Billboard Latin Music Awards is the latest event to be postponed amid the Coronavirus (or COVID-19) pandemic. The show that was set to take place next month has now been rescheduled for the fall.

Billboard announced the news of the postponement last night. “Following the Nevada Governor’s recommendations to limit the size of public gatherings for the prevention and containment of COVID-19, Telemundo and Billboard announced they will postpone the upcoming Billboard Latin Music Awards, previously scheduled to air live on Telemundo on April 23 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas,” read their statement.

With governments around the world encouraging people to self-quarantine and practice social distancing in response to the Coronavirus, the entertainment industry has been hit hard with sporting events, conferences and concerts getting either cancelled or postponed. Artists are still trying to keep their fans engaged during this uncertain time by checking-in via Instagram live or hosting livestream performances.

This year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards was set to be a big night for música urbana, the genre that dominated the nominations. Puerto Rican superstars Bad Bunny and Ozuna tied for the most nominations with 14 each. Depending on how the pandemic plays out, the urbano artists have to wait to see when the time will be right for them to pick up their awards.
