Disquiet Arts is a new erotic and gothic leaning “literary, photography and art magazine for those with darker desires” currently seeking poetry, flash fiction, art, and photography for their first issue.

I wanted to know more about this new lit mag, so I asked founder and editor Natalie Sierra some questions to find out. See my interview with Sierra and a link to submission guidelines below.

HOPKINSON: Tell me a little bit about Disquiet Arts.

SIERRA: Disquiet Arts is a new home for gothic and erotic art. We accept poetry, flash fiction (up to 1,000 words), photography, and art. We are free to submit to and are open year round.

HOPKINSON: How/why was Disquiet Arts originally started?

SIERRA: My friend and a brilliant illustrator in his own right, Luis Aguirre, and I started Disquiet Arts as a home for erotic and gothic leaning literature, especially for people of color. We noticed a lack of representation within the Gothic community and we decided to create a home where diverse authors can showcase their work.

HOPKINSON: Who is your target reader audience?

SIERRA: Those interested in the occult, those looking for refined erotica. People who are curious about the gothic community or are interested in sensual writings and photography.

HOPKINSON: What type of work are you looking for?

SIERRA: Elegant, sophisticated, dark and divine. We want sad, vengeful, stories and art. We want heartbreaks and new lovers who might be gods in disguise.

We don’t want necessarily explicit images or texts. Erotica is about chase and desire. Think Edgar Allan Poe with a hard-on.

HOPKINSON: What do you wish you’d see submitted, but rarely comes in?

SIERRA: We’re still in our infancy and haven’t had many submissions yet. As a poet myself, I would like to see more poetry in my inbox!

HOPKINSON: What are some of your favorite lit mags/journals?

SIERRA: Personally, I love South Broadway Ghost Society and Dryland Lit. I also love opening up my daily SWWIM emails and discovering poets who are new to me!

HOPKINSON: Where can we send submissions?

SIERRA: http://disquietarts.com/ our submission forms are on the front page. There are separate pages for authors and for art/photography.

HOPKINSON: If someone has a question, how can they contact you?

SIERRA: The easiest and fastest  way is through Direct Message on Instagram.
