Few Features To Look For When Buying An RC Car

Type Of Car

There are two types of RC cars based on where you want to drive it. Indoor and outdoor RC cars. Indoor ones are generally not very strong that can handle the outdoor environment. They are preferred by kids and someone who is just learning to control the RC car. Then there are Outdoor cars that can handle outdoor situations. They can be further classified into on-road and off-road cars. On-road cars are strong but not enough to work in rocks, mountain, sand, and beach. They are generally for racing in an even track. While off-road cars are well built and survive in any kind of terrain. For example, rock crawlers are the type of RC cars made to handle this situation.

The speed of the vehicle depends on the type of car you are buying. If you want a car to go 50mph or more you need to go for expensive ones that are only built for racing. Otherwise, speed between 15 to 30 mph is more than enough for hobby or leisure. Especially if you are just learning how to drive or control an RC car. In such cases go for the normal speed ones, preferably those which are meant for indoor driving.

Durability is an essential factor when it comes to RC cars. They break off very often as knocking and dropping RC cars is an important part of driving them. So make sure you buy heavy vehicles that are made up of quality and durable materials. Especially when you are buying a car for racing and off-roading purpose.

Battery Life

Choose a car with a long battery life. Batteries in RC cars are rechargeable so they do not last very long after a single charge. They may work for 20-30 minutes once they are fully charged. If you don’t drive continuously for this long then you will be good with average RC cars. But if you want to race or drive longer than half an hour then you have to go for models with more battery capacity. Also, make sure your car has fast charging as it can make most of the difference in battery usage.

RC cars can go to thousands of dollars for a few premium brands and manufacturers. The higher you go in the price department the better you will get. But finding the ones that are not so expensive but does the job are also not very difficult to find. So choose the ones that fulfill your requirements and justify the cost price.

What Are Brushed Motors In RC Cars?

There are two types of motors, brushed and brushless. Motors in RC cars have brushes on each end that charges the commutator to rotate the armature. Most of the RC cars use brushed motors as they are more accessible and relatively cheaper in price.

How Fast Can A RC Car Go?

As already mentioned they typically go from 15-30 mph but the more premium ones can go up to 50-60 mph. Now it depends on the model that you are choosing and how expensive you are willing to buy. For playing and leisure purpose, low-speed cars are the best while high-speed cars are built for racing.

Where Should We Drive RC Cars?

Depending on where you are, you can drive them anywhere like sidewalk, backyards, streets and even inside your room. But if you want to race with these vehicles then choose a more open area with a flat surface. Track fields and parking lots are some of the good options to race.

Can You Take Your Car in Water?

While we don’t advise to take your RC car in the water, some RC cars don’t get water damaged. Due to their waterproof design and electronics, they can submerge in a little water. However, you can’t drive it in water. There has to be surface beneath the car for it to run. For driving on the water you will have to buy an RC boat.

Here are other gadgets in the small size category.

Final Say

We are pretty sure with our selection of these top small sized RC cars and hope this article helped you in deciding which RC car you want to buy. There are many other cheaper and costlier models are available on the market. We have tried to provide options that fall in between them. Remember that your RC will break or fall apart eventually because they operate at high speed. But don’t worry about it much as most of their parts are easily replaceable at a very low cost. If you think we missed some other good options in the list then please mention it in the comments and help others. You can also ask any of your questions regarding RC cars that we didn’t already cover in the FAQ part.
